Confinement was a real pain, unable to even leave your house unless it was for food, health or banking. People in Spain tend to live in flats so I could count myself lucky as I had my garden to keep me occupied as well as the river at the bottom of it. Mid May and the restrictions were eased so I made a few trips to the Factory Stretch of river . The track needed a lot of cutting back but I did get the rods out and I managed some nice carp and a few small cats to 50 lbs .
June passed with me getting ready for the start, lots of people to juggle about with cancellations but by mid July I was please to meet Jack and Kevin, my first customers of the year!
They arrived mid afternoon so there was time to get the rods out, it didn’t take long to get 4 cat rods fishing all on pellets. It proved to be a good idea as not only did it give them a chance to see how it’s all done but they managed a couple of nice cats at 78 and 63lb, up and running!
Our plan was to see how the fishing went during the day but with the option of doing a night, which turned out to be what we did. The fishing was steady, regular feeding of pellets and a ring of 6 on the rig saw the lads land some cracking cats. Kevin landing the bigger ones at 98, 96, 86, 72 and many others all around the 50lb mark.
Weather was good and the lads were eager to catch more, Jack not having done battle with a monster as yet was all for doing another night on the bank…. what a great nights fishing…… many runs all through the night and morning ….. a lot of small fish but it was great action again most coming to a ring of 6 pellets. Breakfast cooked on the bank and as always a rod hooped over and Kevin was in to a good fish, you know instantly when the run just keeps going, after a great fight Kevin had landed he’s goal for the week !!!
The lads were due to come off the river later in the day, we desperately wanted Jack to get his already bad back a bit of pain! After a few more smaller fish this amazing river obliged and Jack was in….. proper scrap resulting in an 80lb cat …. and that was really all boxes ticked… So pleased to get the year going and both Jack and Kevin having a great time landing in total 34 cats with a combined weight of over 1700lb, let’s hope we can keep it going…..
Next in was Jack….. last minute booking and a regular…… we soon got them fishing and it didn’t take them long to start catching.
By the end of their first 24 hours fishing they had landed 22 cats this included 3 x 80’s 3 x 70’s but most were 40- 60lb great sport but needed the biggies to move in. 48 hours in and they had taken their tally up to 43.
The lads fished their socks off but just couldn’t get amongst the big ones they finished their weeks fishing with 85 cats and 1 carp with a combined weight of over 3900lb
Next in was Chris and Jonny……. 14 years on the bounce they’ve been coming here, on their arrival to Reus they were told that on their return they would have to quarantine for 14 days…. new rules!!!!!!!!! They said they would worry about that later and enjoy their week in the sunshine. We didn’t fish the first day but set off to get under Figgy the following morning, I popped back to base to pick up some supplies and on my return they were already catching…. 8 in total for the first morning! We fished that evening and by morning we were all somewhat knackered!!! We were fishing with the spod rods, softer action which made for great sport as many of the fish were around the 30/40 mark. By the following morning Jonny announced that he was officially “broken” lol..
The lads were done with night fishing so their remaining few days we fished days only, the Liverpool lads the previous week had landed record numbers of fish for a week, so we decided to see if we could beat that. Many fish were landed double hook ups as well, what a fantastic trip. Chris and Jonny ended up fishing a total of 70 hours landing an incredible 81 cats weighing over 3000lb. We managed to relax, have fun, get a few bruises and eat well ….. everything you need, yet another great week with these two.
During their week the news coming from the Uk wasn’t good hearing……. although Spain was open with no restrictions the UK was making people returning quarantine for 14 days….. something people just couldn’t do……. So no sooner had I got up and running just 3 weeks in I was getting cancellations……. that was that….. very disappointing but obviously our well-being is most important….. let’s hope something is found to stop this terrible virus!!!!
